Week of Rivers - 2008Click here for the latest news about WOR |
“If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!” This is a phrase we have probably all heard and most have used. I, for one, believe it is a phrase that is very apt with regards to the Carolina Canoe Club’s Week of Rivers. Since I have been a CCC member, WOR has always been a getaway I look forward to almost as soon as the previous one is over. It is an opportunity to immerse yourself in whitewater paddling, with others who share the same passion, for up to 10 days, if you like.
This year WOR will run from June 28 through July 6. In order to maximize the experience for everyone, we have put together a committee to help with the planning of the event. Our goal is to develop a schedule for as many activities, both paddling and non-paddling, as possible. In addition, we will have this schedule printed in the May/June issue of the Paddler and posted on the CCC website around the same time. If we do a good job planning, there will be a plethora of activities available each day for everyone in attendance.
There is one important item of note that needs to be brought to your attention. Management at the campground would like to take reservations for tent sites. However, to avoid issues and hopefully, simplify things, there is a new procedure for making reservations:
In addition, the daily rate for the tent sites is increasing from $14 to $16 for two people. As far as I know, all other rates remain the same for 2008. The phone number for the campground is (828) 488-3672 and the mailing address is:
Smoky Mtn. Meadows Campground
755 East Alarka Rd.
Bryson City, NC 28713
You can check their website, http://smmcamp.tripod.com for a site map and other information on the campground.
Regardless of the efforts of the planning committee, we still need your help. We will be looking for volunteers to commit to daily beginner/novice trips as well as mentors to assist those new to WOR. If you have any particular activities you would like to have available, or any suggestions on how we can make WOR better, please email me at cruise.chair@carolinacanoeclub.org.
