Cheoah Rescue Photos

These pictures were taken by Michelle Stewart, a paddling soldier from Fort Bragg, on April 15, 2006. It is a rescue sequence of a paddler (Dan Grimes) who swam from his boat in the continuous class fours above, and managed to grab hold to the rock and climb up, narrowly escaping certain injury from being washed over Bear Creek Falls on the Cheoah. He stayed there for over an hour while various rescue options were discussed. Finally, a raft with three boaters in it was lowered to Dan and he patiently waited his time to board. Sutton Bacon, the stream keeper for the Cheoah, later mentioned that the rock would indeed be coined Dan’s Rock.
