The Paddler

What is The Paddler?

The Paddler is a publication of the Carolina Canoe Club. It contains paddling trip reports, information on what the club's doing, and classified advertisements for paddling gear. The Paddler is available to Carolina Canoe Club members via snail mail and online. Members must have an email address in the club's membership database and a copy of Adobe Acrobat Reader in order to access the Paddler online.

If you are a member and you have not received your snail mail copy of The Paddler, please:

  1. Verify that your address is correct and your dues are current by looking at the current Membership Directory (either the annual mailed copy or the current online copy) or by contacting the Membership Chairman at membership@carolinacanoeclub.org.

  2. If the information in the Membership Directory is correct, contact the Business Manager at business.manager@carolinacanoeclub.org to find out why you didn't get a copy.

If you are having a problem accessing the online copy of The Paddler you should be getting either an "invalid email address" or "invalid password" error message. An "invalid email address" message means that you have no email address or an incorrect email address in the directory or your membership in the club has lapsed. Fill out and submit the Update Membership Information form to notify the Membership Chairman to add or correct your email address. Fill out the Carolina Canoe Club Membership form and mail it with your dues to reinstate a lapsed membership. When the Membership Chairman updates the database he will also add your correct email address to the authorized users file. An "invalid password" message means that the password which you entered does not match what is in the authorized users file. If you forgot your password, contact the Webmaster at webmaster@carolinacanoeclub.org to have your password reset.

Guidelines for Newsletter Submissions

  1. Articles and Photos:
If you have access to email, send articles in Microsoft Word format or as text in an email. Photos should be sent in JPG or TIFF format. Please note that JPEG photos are compressed and they lose some quality, even if the dpi is large. A TIFF is always the best format for printing. For each photo please indicate the names of the photographer, everyone in the picture, and the place where the picture was taken. Also state whether the photo is part of an article (and be clear which article) or not. Email articles and photos to the copy editor at copy.editor@carolinacanoeclub.org. Make sure to say (preferably in the subject) that the article is intended for publication in The Paddler. If you don't get a response from Kathy saying that she received the article, then it probably won't be in the next issue. Please send her another e-mail to make sure she saw it; if you still don't hear from her, send a message to the club's email list (ccclist) asking her to get in touch with you, or call her at 919-779-5004. That should take care of problems caused by her spam filter, or articles that she didn't realize were intended for The Paddler.

If you do not have access to email, please send articles on diskette or CD and include a typed copy. If you do not have access to a computer, please mail a handwritten article! Granted, a typed article is better, but a handwritten article is better than no article at all. If you would like to have your diskette or CD mailed back, please include an addressed envelope with sufficient postage. You can also send photos. Please mail articles and photos to Kathy Imbriani, 104 Falling Creek Court, Garner, NC 27529.

  2. Advertising:
CCC members should enter their personal ads on the CCC web site. Go to www.carolinacanoeclub.org/wantads/wantads.html and click on "post an ad". Fill in the ad information and click on "yes" (the default) in answer to "Include this ad in the next issue of The Paddler?" if you want your ad included in the next issue of The Paddler. When you are finished composing your ad, click on "submit" to send your ad to the web site. When it comes time for the next issue of The Paddler, the Advertising Manager will retrieve all current ads that are flagged for inclusion in The Paddler from the web site.

A want ad is automatically deleted after is has been on the web site for 3 months. If you sell an item before then, please delete the ad. You can do this by viewing the ad and following the instructions on that web page.

Commercial ads should be sent directly to Nancy Guthrie, the advertising chair, at advertising@carolinacanoeclub.org or mail them to her at 6717 Valleywoods Lane, Cary, NC 27519.
